VEGA Inventory System

The VEGA Inventory System: Comprehensive Inventory Data At Your Fingertips

VEGA continues to set the pace for development of sensors used for level, pressure, and density measurement, providing solutions for applications and processes that were not possible a decade ago. Along with our transmitter advances, VEGA has focused on new ways to transmit and analyze measurement data, bridging the gap between production and operations and realizing new efficiencies that were not previously possible due to distance and firewalls.

IIoT and the future of inventory management

Many organizations are embracing the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT, aka interconnected devices) to assist in various tasks that were previously impractical or impossible to accomplish with human effort alone. Inventory management and production monitoring are critical applications where IIoT can be used to bridge the gap to the future.

Overstocking and stock shortages are common pain points across industries. Overfilling tanks or silos not only means lost product but poses safety risks and potentially damages the containers involved. Stock shortages shut down production, which means lost revenue and the potential to dry run applications, which could further damage equipment.

These problems become magnified when processes and decision-makers are physically separated from one another by greater distances. The ability to monitor raw inventory and storage capacity and assess the health of critical operations in real-time can result in a sizeable positive impact to organization and dismiss the status quo in favor of greater operational efficiency, increased uptime, and maximized revenue.

The VEGA Inventory System (VIS) is designed such that companies can manage their inventories proactively with specific goals in mind. This ensures greater flexibility in delivery schedules, expands optimization options and reduces stock discrepancies.

So, how does VIS work?

The four steps of comprehensive inventory management

The VEGA Inventory System is a software which enables users to track inventory in real time from any device with internet access. VIS combines reliable VEGA measurement technology for liquids and bulk solids with secure, cloud-based software.

VIS operates with four simple steps:

  1. Measurement: VEGA transmitters precisely and reliably measure the level in a silo, vessel or other type of container and report the measurement data to a connected gateway for transmission to the VIS portal.
  2. Transmission: VEGA gateways collect measurement data from connected sensors and transmit the data wirelessly to the VIS portal at defined regular intervals.
  3. Hosting: The measurement and inventory data received from VEGA gateways or autonomous sensors are stored on the VIS server hosted by VEGA. All data is end-to-end encrypted and secured so that only authorized users have access.
  4. Visualization: Authorized users can access measurement and inventory data via the VIS website or the VIS app with any Internet-enabled device.

There are four different real-time data-viewing options in the visualization stage:

  • Chart: Real-time inventory data points such as stock levels, free space and timestamps are displayed. For many liquid applications, daily consumption and coverage can also be determined and displayed.
  • Graphic: Ideal for quick status updates at a glance. Inventory data is displayed with alarm thresholds. The configurable inventory status, such as “Reorder” or “Safety stock”, is color-coded.
  • Map: The geographical layout shows the location of monitored facilities and the associated storage containers with inventory status color coding.
  • Trend: Users can leverage historical as well as current data in the trend chart.

A range of filter functions allow the user to make a quick overview of requirements by location, product type, level status, alarm levels or other factors.
Traffic light colors are integrated through all functions of the program for easy process status visual cues. For example, when stocks are still in the green zone, everything is running smoothly. A delivery might be needed soon if the status turns yellow, and replenishment is urgently needed when the status turns red.

Summary

The VEGA Inventory System leverages IIoT to solve common inventory management concerns. Professionals around the world trust VIS to optimize operations using high-quality data, inventory insights, and customizable, user-defined limit alerts and notifications to prevent potential disruptions.
