Integrated Marine Gravel Processing Success in Iceland

Dredged marine gravel presents unique processing challenges. Variable feed sizes, the need for consistent product quality, and efficient material handling require an integrated solution that is able deliver reliable performance at every stage.

At a marine gravel operation in Iceland, an integrated Terex MPS and Terex Washing Systems (TWS) processing plant is demonstrating how a complete washing, crushing and screening circuit transforms the gravel into multiple saleable aggregate products.

The process begins with a TWS wash plant where 40–180mm oversize material is separated from the feed. The material is then transferred to a Terex MSF24 modular surge bin, providing a consistent feed to the crushing circuit via a Simplicity variable-speed pan feeder.

The oversize is reduced by a Terex TG220 bronze-bushing cone crusher before being classified on a TWS 16ft x 5ft two-deck dry screen. Material requiring further reduction is automatically recirculated, ensuring efficient closed-circuit crushing.

The correctly sized material is processed through a Canica MV2000 modular vertical-shaft impactor (VSI) featuring a five-port rotor in a rock-on-rock configuration to produce high-quality shaped aggregates. A second screening stage classifies the VSI product while oversize is recirculated back to the VSI, maximizing plant efficiency.

Finally, a Terex MHS6203 modular horizontal screen accurately classifies the material into multiple saleable aggregate products, while fine material is stockpiled for efficient load-out.
