Two US government departments have signed an agreement to boost the use of AI in the mining industry.
With a focus on safety and innovation, the Department of Energy (DoE) and Department of Labor (DoL) will now work together to accelerate the deployment of artificial intelligence (AI), automation, advanced sensors, and other emerging technologies across the nation’s mining sector.
The five-year agreement is designed to boost federal coordination in the country to advance mining innovation while improving worker safety, increase productivity, and supporting the secure domestic production of critical minerals.
The idea is that combining DOE’s expertise in energy technologies and resource recovery with DOL’s knowledge and experience on mine safety will strengthen critical mineral supply chains, creating jobs and securing supplies.
