US-based sodium-ion battery maker Alsym Energy and Australian mining services firm ERITY have signed a 9GWh agreement to supply energy storage to mines. The companies called the partnership the “largest sodium-ion battery agreement to date in the global mining industry,” although very few sodium-ion agreements have been made in the industry to date. The agreement focuses on the development and installation of battery energy storage systems across mining sites. The two companies intend to service “micro-grid power, critical mineral extraction, and AI-powered mobile data centres.”
