FINNING UK & Ireland have published a new guide for quarry and aggregates operators aimed at improving fleet efficiency, productivity and site performance.
The publication focuses on closer integration among machines, operators, and site processes, covering areas such as equipment utilization, maintenance, operational data, and matching machines to site requirements.
Finning say the guidance draws on their experience working with quarry operators and includes lessons from an 18-month benchmarking exercise at a UK quarry, where more than £600,000 in potential operational savings were identified through better use of existing equipment rather than fleet replacement.
Mick Knight, head of corporate and strategic accounts at Finning UK & Ireland, said: ‘We understand the challenges facing site operators and we are not suggesting an entire business restructure or fleet replacement is the solution here
‘Our guide offers an achievable framework – it isn’t a silver bullet, but a practical tool for managers and operators who are looking to make progress over time with what they have available to them.’
The guide covers planning and environmental pressures, the use of operational data and ways of ensuring equipment is matched effectively to individual site requirements.
It also sets out measures intended to deliver incremental improvements across fleet management, maintenance, data use and operator practices, with the aim of reducing downtime, improving reliability and lowering operating costs and emissions.
Mr Knight added: ‘A grand overhaul of site operations isn’t a realistic option; nor does it need to be. Progress in this sector needs to come from consistency around equipment, maintenance and site processes to safeguard businesses and people now, and in the future.’
