AEM was recently awarded a 2021 Gold Circle Merit Award by ASAE: The Center for Association Leadership, which recognizes excellence, innovation and achievement in association/nonprofit marketing, membership and communications programs.

The association received the recognition for its crisis communications and public relations work in support of CONEXPO-CON/AGG 2020.

“We are thrilled to have received so many submissions. We had no idea what to expect for this GCA cycle, but association professionals turned challenges into opportunities and the work did not stop in 2020,” said Jill Treby, senior director of membership and marketing at the Association for Psychological Science and chair of ASAE’s Gold Circle Awards Committee.

As perhaps the last large industry event held in the U.S. in 2020 prior to the COVID-19 outbreak in the U.S., CONEPXO-CON/AGG attracted 130,000 construction contractors and industry exhibitors to Las Vegas, Nevada, March 10 – 14, 2020. Through diligent, steadfast, and collaborative communications planning, AEM’s CONEXPO-CON/AGG team provided ongoing, clear, and direct messages to all show participants in advance of, and during, the show as the pandemic evolved.

“It was truly a team effort,” said AEM Senior Director of Communications Kate Huskin. “It became clear early on that we needed to establish a core team of communicators to address the many questions we were receiving from our exhibitors, attendees and partners related to the show and the evolving COVID-19. Working together, we remained committed to providing transparent, accurate and timely information to ensure CONEXPO-CON/AGG continued safely as planned. And, when it was determined the show would close five hours early, our team again stepped up to help communicate to our key audiences.”

The 2021 Gold Circle competition drew a record-breaking 300 submissions across 15 categories. Over 100 judges from a variety of associations, nonprofits and for-profit organizations evaluated this year’s entries.
