Buell Centrifugal Static Air Classifiers

This classifer is used to efficiently separate coal ash to produce an aggregate for concrete or, to provide a fine size separation of industrial minerals.

It uses centrifugal forces, similar to cyclones, to separate particles at cutpoints between 15 and 100 microns. The feed material is carried into the classifier by the primary inlet flow stream. Internal baffles apply drag forces to the coarse particles while allowing air to pass through them for separation of the fines. The heaviest particles drop to the bottom of the classifier and are discharged through a valve.

Classifier uses air flow, gravity and directional changes to achieve material cutpoints from 15 to 100 microns.

Prior to discharge, a secondary air stream enters into the bottom of the classifier and passes through the material. Particles near the cut point in size are returned to the classifier chamber. The air stream carrying the fine particles follows a spiral path to the outlets on each side of the unit.

The two air streams combine and enter a cyclone for final recovery of fine particles. A manual adjustment to the secondary air damper will provide a change in the size of the fines being separated. Because there are no moving parts within the material flow stream, the need for maintenance is minimized.

Buell has been a major supplier of systems for the Dry Classification of Coal Ash (Fly ash) to produce a product that is used to meet the C618 Size Specification for concrete. This product consists of the minus 45 micron material which has been efficiently removed using the static Buell Centrifugal classifier. The Buell air classifier systems supplied though out the world have been designed to process from 25 to as much as 80 tons per hour with a single Buell Centrifugal classifier unit.

Buell has provided units to major fly ash suppliers in the following countries.

United States: 11 Units
Australia: 5 Units
Belgium: 2 Units
China: 20 Units
Columbia: 1 Unit
Indonesia: 1 Unit
Korea: 9 Units
United Kingdom: 1 Unit
