National Cement of Alabama is to invest $250 million in a facility in St. Clair County, Birmingham.

The company will build a new kiln at its Ragland production plant during the first quarter of 2020.

Spencer Weitman, National Cement of Alabama’s president, says the project will “ensure that our employees and our Ragland facility can continue to be competitive for years to come by upgrading our plant with the latest technology and equipment.”

The Alabama Department of Commerce says daily operations will continue throughout construction, which will be completed in 2020.

The plant ships cement products to customers in areas such as Alabama, North Carolina and Florida.
