AEM members were recognized for their outstanding design and engineering accomplishments as nominees for the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) Innovation Award.

John Deere’s 8RX, GUSS Automation’s Global Unmanned Spray System and Continental’s Transparent Hood received nominations in one of 28 different product categories highlighted by the Consumer Technology Association (CTA), the organizer of CES.

John Deere’s 8RX tractor was nominated under the category entitled “Tech for a Better World.” A fixed-frame four-track tractor, it features four independent tracks and a fully suspended cab designed for more comfortable operation. In addition, the 8RX tractor is designed to offer the pulling performance of tacks by providing more surface area for ground contact, less ground pressure and less slip than wheel tractors.

GUSS Automation’s Global Unmanned Spray System (GUSS),an autonomous orchard sprayer guided by GPS, sensors and software, received a nomination in the Drones & Unmanned Systems category. 100-percent autonomous, it features a streamlined design allowing for tree branches to flow over the top of the vehicle, 4-wheel steering to give it a 17-foot turning radius, and a control vehicle to help monitor several sprayers at a time.

Lastly, the Continental Transparent Hood secured a nomination in the Vehicle Intelligence & Transportation category. The hood displays the area underneath the vehicle to the driver, providing the ability to see potential obstacles and terrain that would otherwise be obstructed. This helps to increase safety for drivers of various vehicle types. Continental’s Transparent Hood technology is based on its Surround View System, comprised of four cameras and a control unit which offer improved visibility around the vehicle.

CES is the world’s gathering place for all those who thrive on the business of consumer technologies. It has served as the proving ground for innovators and breakthrough technologies for 50 years — the global stage where next-generation innovations are introduced to the marketplace. CES 2020 ran from Jan. 7-10 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
