Alexandria, VA –National Stone, Sand and Gravel Association (NSSGA) President and CEO Michael W. Johnson issued the following statement commending the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee for passage of the America’s Transportation Infrastructure Act (ATIA), as amended, in today’s hearing.

“We thank the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee for unanimously passing the America’s Transportation Infrastructure Act, as amended.  There is little debate about the need to make significant investment in our nation’s infrastructure.  Today’s action by the Senate committee is an important step forward to begin the rebuilding of America’s roads and bridges.

“America’s economic health and growth depend on a vibrant infrastructure.  The ability to move commerce and for society to efficiently commute and travel are critical to our way of life.  While other countries, particularly China, have made infrastructure investment a priority to advance their societies, America’s infrastructure investment has stagnated.  America must invest in our roads, bridges, transportation and infrastructure to truly be a global leader.  The ATIA is a positive step in the right direction.

“On behalf of aggregates producers, we thank Chairman John Barrasso (R-Wy.), Ranking Member Tom Carper (D-De.), Transportation Subcommittee Chairman Shelley Moore Capito (R-WVa.) and Ranking Member Ben Cardin (D-Md.) for their leadership on the important issue of infrastructure investment.  We urge the swift passage of the America’s Transportation Infrastructure Act by the Senate.”
